Nepal, India to conduct joint study on construction activities being undertaken around Mahakali River

Nepal and India have agreed to carry out a joint study on construction activities underway in and around the Mahakali River in Darchula district, Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali announced on Monday.

Responding to the questions raised by lawmakers in Parliament, Minister Gyawali informed the meeting that both nations have formed a team to conduct the study and it will be deployed at the site on April 12.

As per Gyawali, the Government of Nepal earlier also had sent a team led by the Chief Survey Officer of Darchula district to make a field study of the security wall being constructed by India on its side of Mahakali River on January 6 amid reports of encroachment.

Gyawali informed the meeting that border experts from both countries are making the field study as per recommendations made by the team that it would be appropriate to find the exact measurement of the wall with the help of survey officials of both the countries and raise this issue with relevant Indian authorities.

Addressing the meeting of the House of Representatives, lawmaker Badu claimed that around 25 hectares of Nepali land had turned into the riverbank on the Indian side of the border.

House Passes Stopgap Funding Bill to Avert Shutdown; Senate Vote & Biden’s Approval Next

The House passed a stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown just hours before the midnight deadline. The bill extends funding through March 2025, providing disaster relief and farm aid, but excludes the debt limit suspension demanded by President-elect Trump. The bill now moves to the Senate for approval before being sent to President Biden. Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republicans worked to secure Democratic support, while Trump’s opposition led to changes in the bill's provisions. #GovernmentShutdown #StopgapFunding #HouseVote #DisasterRelief #FarmAid #DebtLimit #SenateApproval #PresidentBiden #RepublicanLeadership #TrumpOpposition #Oneindia #OneindiaNews Also Read Government Shutdown: What It Means for Federal Employees and Social Security Payments :: https://www.oneindia.com/international/government-shutdown-impacts-on-federal-employees-011-4021087.html?ref=DMDesc Trump's New Demands Result in Collapse of Bipartisan Government Funding Plan Ahead of Deadline :: https://www.oneindia.com/international/government-funding-plan-collapses-trump-demands-011-4020029.html?ref=DMDesc US Congress Approves Temporary Funding Bill to Prevent Government Shutdown Until December :: https://www.oneindia.com/international/us-congress-passes-temporary-funding-bill-avoid-shutdown-011-3945067.html?ref=DMDesc ~HT.318~ED.102~PR.362~GR.125~
