Chhattisgarh villagers near Bijapur Naxal attack begin returning home, recount horror
Villagers of Tekulagudem village, who had emptied out from their village, during Saturday's (April 03) ambush by Naxals on a team of security personnel in Chhattisgarh have begun returning and recount how they were forced to flee ahead of the gunbattle.
"The encounter broke out on April 3rd.
When we heard the exchange of fire between security forces and Naxals, we ran away fearing death.
Everyone in the village had left.
When we returned here, we saw bodies of jawans," one of the villagers said to ANI.
In the deadly Naxals attack, at least 22 security personnel were killed, and around 32 sustained injuries in the encounter.
The annual Kanwar Yatra, a Hindu pilgrimage dedicated to Lord Shiva, begins as millions of devotees embark on a sacred journey across central India. Kanwariyas, as the pilgrims are known, travel on foot to collect holy water from the Ganges River, carrying it back to local Shiva temples. This month-long event, concentrated in states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttar Pradesh, sees devotees seeking blessings for health, prosperity, and spiritual purification through their arduous trek and ritualistic offerings.
