The CCTV footage filmed in Baise, Guangxi province, shows the windows of nearby houses were blown out after a loud explosion.
The explosion generated a mushroom cloud and vehicles nearby were smashed.
According to the Baise Tianyang District Party Committee Publicity Department, a man purchased a great amount of rock cracking chemicals used for road construction and stored it in a rental house.
The explosion occurred where the chemical was stored, resulting in the death of one person and minor injuries of three others in a car repair shop next door.
The accident also caused damage to two vans, two cars, a truck and four one-story brick houses, with initial property losses estimated at 500,000 yuan (£55,650).
At present, all the injured have been properly treated.
An investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.
