Prior to the beginning of the trial, Judge Juan Merchan issued a gag order. On June 18, it was revealed that the New York Court of Appeals has declined to hear the former president's gag order appeal, CNN reports. According to Trump's attorneys, the hush money case puts forth “substantial constitutional questions of the highest importance.”. This Gag Order restricts President Trump’s core political speech on matters of central importance at the height of his Presidential campaign, where he is the leading candidate, , Donald Trump's attorneys, via appeals filing. ... and thus it violates the fundamental right of every American voter to hear from the leading candidate for President on matters of enormous public importance, Donald Trump's attorneys, via appeals filing.
