Mayor Lori Lightfoot declares racism a public health crisis in Chicago
As the coronavirus pandemic is coming to a close, Mayor Lori Lightfoot and other city and community leaders declared racism a public health crisis in Chicago.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the goal is to build affordable housing on thousands of vacant lots throughout the city, because, the mayor said, vacancy often contributes to violence.
The president of the Chicago Teacherโs Union suggested some of the layoffs are retaliatory. Mayor Lori Lightfoot did not take questions on the subject at a last-day-of-school event this week.
