U.S. President Joe Biden announced the new deal on March 25 from Brussels.

Under the deal, the U.S. will deliver more gas to EU nations.

The deal specifies a total gas delivery from the U.S. to the EU of 15 billion cubic meters this year alone.

Per the new agreement, the amount of gas delivered to EU from the U.S. will increases over time.

The EU has also reiterated its commitment to renewable energy sources in response to climate change.

Russia is currently Europe's primary gas supplier.

The nation's gas is responsible for close to 40 percent of the EU's natural gas supply.

In making the announcement, Biden called out the efforts of Russian President Vladimir Putin to "coerce and manipulate his [EU] neighbors.".

Biden also stated the Russian oil industry" is in place to "drive [Putin's] war machine.".

According to Biden, the deal is not "only the right thing to do from a moral standpoint" ... .

... but "it’s going to put us on a stronger strategic footing.".

The new deal with require construction of new terminals in in the EU to be able to handle the significant transatlantic imports increase.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated a commitment to shifting dependence upon Russian gas.
