Fox News reports that on Oct.
24, the New York Supreme Court found that "being vaccinated does not prevent
an individual from contracting or transmitting COVID-19.".
As a result, government employees who were fired for being unvaccinated must now be rehired and paid back wages.
In October of last year, David Chokshi, NYC health commissioner, issued an order forcing all city employees to get a COVID vaccine.
Mayor Eric Adams supplemented that demand with his own executive order that provided exemptions for a select few.
Judge Ralph J.
Porzio, who authored the opinion, found the city's reasoning to be hypocritical.
.
The Health Commissioner cannot create a new condition of employment for city employees, .
.
.
Cannot prohibit an employee from reporting to work .
.
.
[and] cannot terminate employees.
The Mayor cannot exempt certain employees from these orders, Judge Ralph J.
Porzio, via opinion.
If it was about safety and public health, no one would be exempt.
It is time for the City of New York to do what is right and what is just, Judge Ralph J.
Porzio, via opinion.
Fox News reports that in NYC alone,
1,400 workers were fired earlier this
year for refusing the vaccine.
According to an NYC law department spokesman, “the city strongly disagrees with this ruling as the mandate is firmly grounded in law and is critical to New Yorkers’ public health.”
Diddy Returns Key , to NYC.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams
presented the Key to the City to
Sean "Diddy" Combs in September 2023.
Earlier this month, Mayor Adams asked the rapper to
give it back after 2016 security footage of Combs
assaulting his ex, Cassie, surfaced, NBC News reports. .
The footage shows Combs chasing Cassie down
a hotel hallway, grabbing her near the elevator, throwing her to the ground and kicking her twice.
He then proceeded to drag her
on the ground by her sweatshirt.
In a letter addressed to Diddy, Adams asked for the Key to the City to be returned and said he "was deeply disturbed" by the footage, NBC News reports.
I strongly condemn these actions
and stand in solidarity with all
survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, via letter to Diddy.
Our city has worked tirelessly to
make sure survivors are heard and
seen by our administration, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, via letter to Diddy.
Diddy has since honored the mayor's
request and returned the key.
He also released a video apology, calling his "behavior" in the footage "inexcusable.".
Five lawsuits alleging "sexual assault, sexual trafficking"
and "other criminal activity" have been filed
against Diddy since November, NBC News reports.
Federal agents searched his properties and
seized his phones in March after a warrant was issued by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York
