Turkey's government blamed Kurdish militants on Monday for a blast that killed six people in Istanbul's main shopping street, and said police had detained 22 suspects, including the person who had planted the bomb.
Six people died and 81 were injured when Istanbul’s popular pedestrian thoroughfare İstiklal Avenue was hit by a bomb attack.
In a bold statement, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced plans to create a 30-kilometer-deep security zone within Syria. The zone is aimed at targeting Kurdish militants, particularly those from the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and its affiliates, the PYD and YPG. These groups are considered terrorist organizations by Turkey, and Erdogan emphasized the need for such a zone to secure Turkey’s borders and combat terrorism.
