Western Sanctions Are Paying Off As Russian Oil Revenues Fall
Western Sanctions Are, Paying Off As Russian Oil , Revenues Fall.
According to the International Energy Agency,
Russian oil revenues fell in November despite a boost
in production to just below levels prior to the Ukraine invasion.
'The Guardian' reports that the falling revenue
is a sign that Western sanctions and other efforts
to cut off Russia's income have been successful.

is a sign that Western sanctions and other efforts
to cut off Russia's income have been successful.
.
In November, the IEA estimated
that Russia earned just
$15.8 billion from oil sales.
.
That is the second-lowest monthly
earnings Russia has reported this year
after bringing in just $14.7 billion in September.
The dipping revenue report comes despite Russia
increasing its export of crude oil to 8.1 million
barrels per day, its highest level since April.
In December, the EU and G7 introduced
a $60-a-barrel price cap on Russian oil.
On December 14, the price
of non-Russian oil had climbed
to about $81 a barrel.
President Vladimir Putin has said the cap will
not have a significant impact on Russia’s economy
but could harm the international energy market.

may force Russia to cut production.

SUV Sales Hit , Record High in 2023 Despite , Global Efforts to Cut Emissions.
'The Guardian' reports that SUV sales
hit a record high in 2023, comprising
half of all new cars sold globally.
Experts warn that the increasing popularity
of the heavy vehicles will drive up carbon
emissions responsible for global warming.
An analysis by the International Energy Agency
(IEA) found that emissions from SUVs made up
for 20% of the world's carbon emissions in 2023.
According to the IEA, if SUVs were
considered a country, they would have been
the fifth-largest carbon emitter in the world,
ahead of both Germany and Japan.
'The Guardian' reports that urgent cuts in emissions
are needed to combat climate-driven extreme weather
events, which are already increasing in frequency.
Despite this, SUV sales
increased by 15% compared to a 3%
increase for conventional automobiles in 2023.
According to the IEA, the main reasons
behind increasing SUV sales are
“the appeal of SUVs as a status symbol,”
automakers' marketing and perceptions of comfort.
The IEA also points out that SUVs cause greater injuries
in pedestrian collisions, due to the height of the
vehicle's front end and take up more space in cities.
While 20% of the SUVs sold in 2023
were either full electric or plug-in hybrids,
the vehicles require larger batteries, which
places a strain on supplies of critical minerals. .
In 2023, there were over 360 million SUVs
on roads worldwide, which were responsible
for more than 1 billion tons of carbon emissions,
increasing by about 10% compared to 2022

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has denounced recent viral videos depicting US President Joe Biden as confused at public events, labelling them as “cheap fakes.” Her comments follow the spread of several clips on social media, which have ignited debates about the president's mental fitness. In one widely shared video, President Biden appears to struggle with sitting down during a D-Day memorial event in France. Commenters suggested he seemed “completely lost” or experiencing “some kind of episode.” Another clip from a G7 meeting in Italy shows Biden wandering away from the group during a skydiving demonstration, only to be guided back by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

In a recent statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has firmly rejected the peace terms proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, labeling them as an ultimatum. During a meeting with senior Russian Foreign Ministry officials, Putin demanded that Ukraine cede four regions that voted to join Russia and guarantee it will never join NATO. Zelensky, attending the G7 meeting in Italy, emphasized that these demands are unacceptable and tantamount to surrender. The Kremlin, however, described the offer as a comprehensive and constructive proposal. As the conflict continues, the gap between Moscow's demands and Kiev's position remains wide, with peace still a distant hope.
