Christmas tree unveiled in Kyiv, as Ukraine refuses to let Russia 'steal' the festive season
The day started with attacks on critical infrastructure in the Ukrainian capital and ended with the unveiling of the 12-metre-high artificial tree decorated with white peace doves.
Residents braved the freezing temperatures to admire the tree located next to the Saint Sophia Cathedral.
In a fiery exchange reflecting the deepening rift between Kyiv and Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov labelled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's recent remarks as “delusional.” This statement came in response to Zelensky's assertion during his address to the UN Security Council that Moscow could be forced into peace on Ukraine’s terms. Peskov vehemently rejected this notion, warning that attempting to coerce Russia into peace is a "fatal mistake" that will have serious repercussions for Ukraine.
