Supreme Court , Temporarily Upholds , New York Gun Law.

On January 11, the Supreme Court voted to allow a controversial New York gun control law to remain in effect as legal challenges to the legislation continue.

NBC reports that an appeals court had attempted to block the ruling pending further litigation.

The controversial law allows individuals the right to bear arms outside their own homes.

.

While there were no dissenting votes, justices expressed that the ruling is not "expressing any view on the merits of the case.".

In November, U.S. District Judge Glenn Suddaby struck down a number of provisions included in the law.

.

One of those provisions was meant to ban firearms from being carried into a number of "sensitive locations.".

Those "sensitive locations" include healthcare facilities, churches, parks, entertainment venues and other gathering places.

The judge also blocked a provision that requires potential gun buyers from proving "good moral character." .

The new Concealed Carry Improvement Act requires applicants to provide contact information of family members and character references.

.

The new law would also force applicants to provide information about who they live with and details about their social media accounts
