Russia's spring offensive
The Russian Spring Offensive of 1917 was a bold move by the Tsar's forces to regain ground lost during World War I.
It proved devastatingly effective; in less than three weeks, the Russians reclaimed more than 200 miles of territory while defeating over 800,000 Austro-Hungarian and German soldiers.
Through its aggressive strategy, Russia managed to stave off Germany's advances even as it experienced internal upheaval at home.
Ultimately, though the offensive was short-lived and costly in terms of casualties and supply lines, it allowed the Russian forces to buy some much-needed breathing space
