The decision by a grand jury to indict former US President Donald Trump has put spotlight on a few others apart from Trump himself.
One of those is Alvin Bragg the Mahattan DA.
He is the one who is steering this case.
Bragg is one of the five elected district attorneys in New York City - one for each of the city’s five boroughs.
Bragg won a tough Democratic primary and then the general election to become Manhattan's district attorney.
He is just the fourth elected district attorney in Manhattan in the last eight decades He became Manhattan’s first Black district attorney in 2022, following his election in November 2021.
Trump Gag Order in Hush Money Case , to Stay in Effect.
On May 30, Donald Trump was convicted
on 34 counts of fraud connected to
Stormy Daniels hush money payments.
Prior to the beginning of the trial,
Judge Juan Merchan issued a gag order.
On June 18, it was revealed that the New York Court of Appeals has declined to hear the former president's gag order appeal, CNN reports.
According to Trump's attorneys, the
hush money case puts forth “substantial constitutional questions of the highest importance.”.
This Gag Order restricts President
Trump’s core political speech on matters
of central importance at the height of
his Presidential campaign, where
he is the leading candidate, , Donald Trump's attorneys, via appeals filing.
... and thus it violates the fundamental
right of every American voter to hear
from the leading candidate for
President on matters of
enormous public importance, Donald Trump's attorneys, via appeals filing.
Another avenue in which Trump may
have his case heard would be to file a
motion for leave to appeal, CNN reports.
He has 30 days to do so.
Once filed, New York's highest court will revisit whether to hear the case. .
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg urged the New York Court of Appeals to dismiss Trump's latest request, .
saying that he has a “well-documented history of leveling threatening, inflammatory, and denigrating remarks against trial participants.”
