The Promise of Pentecost

2,000 years ago, 120 disciples of Jesus sat in the Upper Room praying and waiting, in accord, for the promise of the Holy Spirit.

It was Pentecost Sunday, around 9 am, when the power of God rushed into the Upper Room like a mighty rushing wind.

Tongues of fire rested upon each and every head.

The promise of the Holy Spirit had come.

Pentecost had been fulfilled.

2,000 years later, we take all of this for granted.

We don’t fully grasp what that meant for the Church and the world that day.
