Australia to terminate lease of new Russian embassy near Parliament House

The Australian government announced Thursday that it will introduce new legislation to terminate the lease of a new Russian embassy directly adjacent to the government’s Parliament House in Canberra.

“The government has received very clear security advice as to the risk presented by a new Russian presence so close to Parliament House.

We're acting quickly to ensure the lease site does not become a formal diplomatic presence,” said Australian Prime Minister Antony Albanese.
