Manipur violence completes 3 months, Kuki tribal forum plans mass burial of bodies | Oneindia News
The Manipur police on Wednesday sounded a high alert and stepped up security in different parts of the state after the ITLF announced that it would hold a mass burial ceremony on Thursday of the 35 people who died in the ethnic clashes.
This comes as Manipur violence completes 3 months.
The mass burial would take place following a programme to pay tributes to the deceased in the Peace Ground at Tuibuong and also in Churachandpur.
Severe flooding has hit Manipur, including its capital Imphal, following incessant rains triggered by Cyclone Remal. The state government has declared a two-day public holiday for all state offices until May 31 due to breaches in embankments along riverbanks. Citizens have been urged to stay indoors unless faced with an emergency. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing to assist those affected by this natural disaster. Imphal: Former CRPF chief & security advisor to Manipur govt Kuldiep Singh says, "...It was a storm kind of condition and it was quite dark. Before the forces retaliated they (militants) fired on camp inmates, and four personnel got serious injuries out of which two succumbed to the injuries. Investigation will be done and we will take action against them. We will not spare them and bring them to the Court of law. They will have to pay for this as per the law of the land... This is the first time that they have attacked the forces, none of the militants of Meiteis or Kukis attacked the forces as the forces are here to maintain peace and that is how we are in the middle of both communities. They call these forces (paramilitary) neutral forces... Earlier, you might have seen that the groups are attacking the national infrastructure like the roads and towers. Now, they are attacking central forces. How can this be tolerated?..."
