Baby killer nurse Lucy Letby sentenced to life in prison

Neonatal nurse Lucy Letby, 33, will spend the rest of her life in prison after being given a whole-life order at Manchester Crown Court for the murders of seven babies and attempted murders of six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Letby, the most prolific child serial killer in modern British history, refused to appear for her sentencing hearing.

Cheryl Korbel, the mother of murdered nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel, has previously called for a law which compels convicted criminals to attend their sentencing.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says the UK Government is looking at changing the law.

The government has also announced an independent inquiry into Letby’s crimes, after it was revealed that the Countess of Chester Hospital ignored doctors’ warnings about the neo-natal nurse.
