After India, several nations reject China's new map citing illegitimate appropriation of territories
Governments in the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and Taiwan have joined India in rejecting China's new national map, issuing strongly worded statements accusing Beijing of claiming their territory.
China had published a new version of its national map on Monday to correct what Beijing has in the past referred to as āproblematic mapsā that it claims misrepresent its territorial borders.
India, on Tuesday, had lodged a strong protest with China over its so-called "standard map" laying claim over Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin, and asserted that such steps only complicate the resolution of the boundary question.
Indiaās The Ministryof External Affairs Ministry had outrightly rejected China's claims as having "no basis".
Yesterday, several other nations joined India in making their displeasure clear to China.
Russian and Chinese naval forces have commenced a series of joint military exercises, titled 'Maritime Joint-2024,' in the Pacific Ocean. The three-day drills, which began near the Chinese city of Zhanjiang, aim to enhance the naval forces' capability to address security threats, maintain international and regional stability, and strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations, according to a statement from Beijing's Defense Ministry. Two vessels from Russiaās Pacific Fleet are participating in the exercises, as reported by the fleetās press office on Monday via TASS. The participating crews are set to conduct a range of activities, including air defence exercises, drills involving anti-submarine aviation, resupply operations while underway, and sea rescue training.

Taiwan's defense ministry called the Chinese military drill
"irrational provocations," while deploying naval, air
and ground forces to "defend the island's sovereignty.".
According to Taiwanese military officials,
the latest Chinese drills are the first
simulated full-scale attack on the island. .
Maps released by China's People's Liberation
Army (PLA) showed that the exercises were
taking place all around Taiwan's main island. .
For the first time, the drills also targeted the Taiwanese islands of Kinmen, Matsu, Wuqiu and Dongyin, all which lie near to the Chinese coast. .
According to the PLA, the drills are focused on
conducting joint sea-air combat-readiness
operations and precision strikes on critical targets.
The exercises will also run integrated operations
inside and outside the island to determine the
"joint real combat capabilities" of Tawian's forces.
China's foreign ministry defended the drills
as a "necessary and legitimate move" to
safeguard national sovereignty.
