Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced the departure of the defence minister Oleksiy Reznikov, calling for "new approaches" a year and a half into Russia's invasion.
The announcement came hours after Ukraine fought off an attack by Russian drones in the southern Odesa region early yesterday that hit a Danube port on the border with NATO member Romania.
In his nightly televised address to the nation yesterday, Zelenskyy said that the minister will be relieved of his duties this week His removal comes in the wake of a number of corruption scandals involving Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
Infact, Zelensky’s promise to rid the government of corruption was one of the reasons behind his rapid ascent into power in 2019.
Now, Zelenskyy has nominated Rustem Umerov, the former people’s deputy of Ukraine, to become the new defense minister.
Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation has removed multiple bulletins criticizing Tulsi Gabbard following her nomination as director of national intelligence by President-elect Trump. The former Democratic congresswoman, now Republican, has consistently opposed US military interventions and advocated for diplomatic solutions in Ukraine.
