Iran authorities defuse 30 bombs in Tehran and detain 28 people, Tasnim reports | Oneindia News
Authorities in Iran released a statement claiming that they had neutralised 30 explosives.
Citing the intelligence ministry, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported that the explosives were meant to go off simultaneously in Tehran.
Reports revealed that Iranian authorities also detained 28 terrorists who had connections with the terror group Islamic State and were involved in the terror plot.
Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has appeared to encourage Tehran to convince Hezbollah, which it supports, to agree to a deal that could require the militant group to withdraw from the Israel-Lebanon border.

Iran's leadership signals openness to communication with the US following Trump's election victory, with Foreign Minister Araghchi confirming existing channels remain open. Despite fundamental differences and Trump's previous "maximum pressure" policy, Iranian President Pezeshkian advocates pragmatic engagement. This comes as Trump appoints strongly pro-Israel figures to key positions.

The US military has launched a series of airstrikes targeting sites in Syria associated with Iran-aligned groups, a day after an assault on America’s largest command centre in the region. The strikes, conducted by US Central Command, were in retaliation for recent attacks on US personnel stationed in Syria. Centcom emphasised that the action was a direct response to the escalating violence aimed at American forces, underscoring the US's commitment to protecting its troops and partners in the region.
The airstrikes, which hit multiple sites believed to be linked to Iranian-backed militias, aim to degrade the ability of these groups to plan and execute future attacks against US forces. The US military presence in Syria, primarily focused on combating ISIS remnants, has faced increasing threats from Iran-aligned militias, complicating efforts to stabilise the region. Centcom's statement reinforced that such attacks on US forces would not be tolerated, sending a strong message to Tehran-backed militants. The escalation comes amid growing tensions in Syria, where Iran-backed groups maintain a significant presence, particularly in the east.

In a chilling escalation of rhetoric, Iran has issued a stark warning of a potential "global war threat" as Israel intensifies its military offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon. The fierce battles, marked by relentless airstrikes and heavy artillery, have ignited fears of a broader regional conflict spiralling out of control. Tehran’s warning comes as Israeli fighter jets pounded Hezbollah’s command centres, weapon depots, and strategic bases in southern Lebanon, targeting the Iranian-backed militant group with unprecedented force.

In a dramatic shift in U.S. foreign policy, President-elect Donald Trump is poised to ramp up pressure on Iran, with plans to tighten sanctions and choke off Tehran's vital oil revenue. Sources close to Trump’s transition team revealed that his administration will implement aggressive measures aimed at isolating Iran economically, focusing particularly on halting its oil exports. The move could escalate tensions in the already volatile Middle East, as Trump seeks to target key financial lifelines and further isolate Tehran on the global stage. This bold strategy mirrors his “maximum pressure” campaign from his previous term, signalling a hardline stance that could have significant geopolitical ramifications.
