The U.S State Department on Wednesday informed that the Rafah Border Crossing between Gaza and Egypt was closed because of a security circumstance.
The United States expects the Egypt-controlled crossing will be reopened at "regular intervals" so that aid can enter the Gaza Strip and foreign nationals can continue to depart, Vedant Patel, US State Department deputy spokesperson, said.
The Trump administration has placed around 60 USAID officials on leave amid a sweeping foreign aid review. The move follows Trump’s executive order halting most foreign aid for 90 days, citing potential policy violations. Critics claim it suppresses dissent, as exemptions for Ukraine-related programs were reportedly denied.
