was fired as foreign secretary, and
James Cleverly took her place, NPR reports.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak appointed Cameron as the new foreign secretary.
Cameron was prime minister from
2010 to 2016 and triggered Brexit.
.
His appointment came as a shock since non-lawmakers rarely assume senior government posts, NPR reports.
Additionally, a former prime minister
has not had a Cabinet job in decades.
According to Cameron, Britain is "facing a
daunting set of international challenges, including the war in Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East.".
While I have been out of front-line politics
for the last seven years, I hope that my
experience — as Conservative leader for
11 years and prime minister for six —
will assist me in helping the prime minister
to meet these vital challenges, David Cameron, U.K. foreign secretary, via statement.
While some politicians support Cameron's
appointment, several of his peers view
the move as a sign of "desperation.".
A few weeks ago, Rishi Sunak
said David Cameron was part of
a failed status quo.
It's difficult to believe that this is going to
impress voters, whether they are convinced
Brexiteers who despise David Cameron for
being a remainer, or convinced remainers
who despise David Cameron for
holding and losing a referendum.

Queen Mary University of London, via statement
Lord David Cameron says Rishi Sunak has "every day" announced "exciting policies for the future", adding the prime minister has shown "lots of energy" throughout the election campaign. Speaking on a visit to a farm in Cornwall, the foreign secretary adds the choice at the election is all about "having a plan" with the Conservatives or "more taxes with Labour". Report by Brooksl. Shadow Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds denies the Labour Party of 2024 looks like the Conservative Party under David Cameron's leadership. When asked whether the two parties are similar Reynolds says, “I really disagree on that”. He continues saying, “A Labour platform which is pro-business and pro-worker is about better living standards, better public services, it's about breaking out of the stagnation of the last 14 years.”

Supreme Court Rules That , Some Jan. 6 Defendants, Were Improperly Charged.
NPR reports that the United States Supreme Court voted to limit which defendants accused of taking part in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot can be charged by federal prosecutors.
The decision also casts doubt on two out of
the four felony counts in former President
Donald Trump's election subversion indictment.
According to conservative Chief Justice John Roberts,
the court ruled that the U.S. government must prove , “that the defendant impaired the availability or integrity
for use in an official proceeding of records, documents,
objects, or other things used in an official proceeding.”.
NPR reports that prosecutors relied
on a key criminal statute to prosecute
over 350 participants of the Capitol riot.
The statute makes it a crime to alter or
destroy official documents, or to otherwise
obstruct or impede official proceedings.
Roberts wrote that the statute was
not meant to broaden the meaning of
the law to make it a catchall provision. .
The decision will impact other cases related
to Jan. 6, many of which will have to be
resentenced, retried or defendants will be released. .
NYU law professor Ryan Goodman authored
a study that found only 346 of the 1,417 people
charged in connection with the Capitol riot
were charged under the obstruction statute.
The study also found that 71 people are still
awaiting trial on the obstruction charge, but over
half of them are also charged with another felony.
NPR points out that if found guilty of other felony charges,
the sentencing judge is still allowed to use the charge of
obstruction to determine the length of their sentence.

Reports suggest Russia plans to arm Yemen's Houthi rebels with advanced anti-ship ballistic cruise missiles, potentially shifting Middle East power dynamics. This move could threaten Western interests, especially commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The Houthis, aligned with Iran, have increased attacks on vessels recently. Russia's closer ties with Iran and anti-Western alliances drive this cooperation. U.S. officials worry about escalating conflicts, particularly between Israel and Hezbollah, potentially deepening Iran-Russia military collaboration.
