'Wonka' starring Timothée Chalamet came in ahead of expectation at the weekend box office, singing to a $39 million domestic debut.
Overseas, it took in $53.6 million from 77 markets to come in well ahead of family classics like 'Paddington' or musicals like 'The Greatest Showma'n and 'Mary Poppins Returns'.
The movie made $92.6 million worldwide over the weekend.

Timothée Chalamet is channeling Bob Dylan in the first trailer for James Mangold’s upcoming biopic 'A Complete Unknown.' The 'Dune' actor stars in the film as the iconic folk singer-songwriter of the 1960s. Chalamet has also said he does his own singing for the role — just like his 'Dune Part 2' co-star Austin Butler did for his role in 'Elvis' — building on his musical work following his performance in 'Wonka.'
