High Adolescent BMI Linked, With Chronic Kidney Disease, Study Warns.
'Newsweek' reports that scientists have found a link
between teenagers with a high body mass index (BMI) and
developing chronic kidney disease in young adulthood.
The condition occurs when kidneys
are damaged and cannot effectively
filter toxins and waste from blood.
When excess fluid and waste build up in
the body, it can result in a number of health
problems, including heart disease and stroke.
According to the National Survey of Children's Health,
approximately one in six U.S. children between the ages
of 10 and 17 are considered obese with a BMI over 30.
.
Recently, a team of scientists from the Gertner Institute
for Epidemiology and Health Policy Research in Israel
investigated the link between BMI and early CKD.
'Newsweek' reports that the team's results
demonstrate a clear association between
developing early CKD and a high adolescent BMI.
The results suggest that men are more vulnerable to
these risks than women, perhaps due to differences
in fat distribution and effects of the hormone estrogen.

highlight the importance of taking action
to mitigate adolescent obesity in the U.S.

'Newsweek' reports that neuroscientists have
discovered a link between an individual's
dietary choices and specific brain activity patterns.
According to scientists at Queen's University at Kingston,
connections exist between body mass index (BMI)
and certain brain states necessary to achieve goals. .
The team looked at data from three MRI studies
involving 123 participants making food choices
under a number of different conditions.

'Newsweek' reports that the results offer insight
into how variables are integrated by the brain
and how that impacts dietary control.
The findings suggest that the number of
large-scale brain pattern reconfigurations
necessary to influence behavior may determine
if people struggle to maintain dietary control. .

understanding of autism.
In 2023, the CDC reported that 1 in 36 U.S. children has an autism spectrum disorder.
A lot of research is being
conducted on the disorder.
and several groups have been formed
to raise more money for research.
Signs of autism can present
