The Palestinian militant group's unprecedented attack killed about 1,140 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

Israel's retaliatory military campaign has killed at least 21,800 people, mostly women and children, according to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry.
