Late on Saturday in western Japan, a woman in her 90s was successfully rescued from a collapsed house, surviving an astonishing 124 hours after a powerful earthquake devastated the region.
The quake, with a magnitude of 7.6, resulted in the tragic loss of at least 126 lives, causing buildings to crumble and triggering landslides.
The elderly survivor, located in Suzu city, Ishikawa Prefecture, defied the odds by enduring for more than five days following the quake that struck the area on Monday.
News footage broadcast nationwide captured the scene as helmeted rescue workers shielded the area with blue plastic, obscuring the woman from view.
The critical window for survival typically diminishes after the initial 72 hours.
The ongoing widespread efforts, involving soldiers, firefighters, and other responders, have resulted in several other remarkable rescues over the past few days.
