Bilkis Bano Verdict: Bilkis Bano issues statement after Supreme Court verdict | Oneindia

Bilkis Bano, a survivor of one of the most brutal crimes during the 2002 Gujarat riots, expressed joy as the Supreme Court declared today a "truly the New Year" for her.

The 11 men responsible for killing her family and subjecting her to gangrape are set to return to prison after the court ruled that their release last year, based on "good behaviour," was unjust.

The Supreme Court emphasised that the Gujarat government's decision to release the convicts lacked thoughtful consideration, stating that only the state where the trial occurred, Maharashtra in this instance, has the authority to make such decisions.

The court ordered the convicts to surrender within two weeks #BilkisBanoCase #SupremeCourtVerdict #ConvictsRelease #JusticeForBilkisBano #LegalDecision #JudicialOutcome #GujaratGovernment #HumanRights #CriminalJustice #CourtRuling #LegalSystem #BrahminsReleaseControversy #PublicOutcry #AccountabilityMatters #RuleOfLaw #SocialJustice #LegalDebate #TransparencyInJustice #BilkisBanoPetition #LegalChallenges ~HT.292~PR.152~ED.101~GR.121~

What's the Origin of April Fools' Day? [Video]

What's the Origin of April Fools' Day?

What's the Origin of April Fools' Day?. The April 1 tradition of pranks has been observed for several centuries across a variety of cultures. However, the official origins of April Foolsā€™ Day are unknown. The most popular theory is that the day was caused by the switch from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar in the 16th century. The original calendar saw the New Year beginning on March 25, with celebrations occurring on the first day of April. The switch moved the New Year to January 1, but many still thought April 1 was the proper day to celebrate, hence they were ā€œApril fools.ā€. Another theory says the day is related to the arrival of Spring, when nature ā€œfoolsā€ people with irregular weather. Historians have also linked April Fools' Day to an ancient Roman festival known as Hilaria, which was celebrated by people dressing up in disguises. Whatever its origin may be, April Foolsā€™ Day has evolved to have its own lore and rules. Superstition says that playing pranks past noon or not responding to pranks with good humor will attract bad luck
