Bilkis Bano, a survivor of one of the most brutal crimes during the 2002 Gujarat riots, expressed joy as the Supreme Court declared today a "truly the New Year" for her.
The 11 men responsible for killing her family and subjecting her to gangrape are set to return to prison after the court ruled that their release last year, based on "good behaviour," was unjust.
The Supreme Court emphasised that the Gujarat government's decision to release the convicts lacked thoughtful consideration, stating that only the state where the trial occurred, Maharashtra in this instance, has the authority to make such decisions.
The court ordered the convicts to surrender within two weeks

Aditya Thackeray accused the BJP-Shinde government of misusing public funds, including spending ₹74 crore on painting Metro walls instead of addressing critical issues like farmers' welfare, roads, pensions, and healthcare. He alleged that 90,000 workers from Gujarat have been brought in to manipulate Maharashtra elections, turning it into a battle for Gujarat rather than Maharashtra. Promising strict action against corruption and wrongdoing, Thackeray urged voters to back Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for the state's better future.
