Defence Secretary Grant Shapps announces the UK will be sending 20,000 troops to serve across Europe in a major NATO exercise in the first half of this year.

Rishi Sunak has reassured the public following a major data breach at the Ministry of Defence, which impacted a third-party payroll system. "I do want to reassure people the Ministry of Defence has already taken action, removing the network and taking it offline and making sure the people affected are supported in the right way," he said. A Moroccan asylum seeker has been sentenced to life in jail for murder, with a minimum term of 45 years, at Teesside Crown Court. In October last year, 45-year-old Ahmed Alid stabbed Iranian Christian convert Javed Nouri at the house he was sharing with other asylum seekers before looking for more victims in Hartlepool town centre. He then stabbed and killed 70-year-old Terence Carney who was out for his regular early morning walk.
