Hunt dismisses Rwanda rebellion as 'lively discussions'

Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt dismisses last night's resignations as "lively discussions" inside the Party as he insists the Tories are "united" in the effort to sort out illegal immigration.

His comments come as the fate of Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda plan is in the balance as a crunch vote looms after two Tory deputy chairmen resigned to join the biggest Conservative rebellion of his leadership.

Tories say migration deals ‘won’t work’ as deterrent

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp has argued that migration deals similar to those in Italy will not be effective as a deterrent. His comments follow official figures showing that over 800 migrants crossed the English Channel in the past week. Philp acknowledged that prevention deals could be a “constructive step,” but insisted they would not succeed without a proper deterrent, while defending the previous government's Rwanda deportation plan.
