Tensions escalated in Guwahati on Tuesday when clashes erupted between Congress workers and the police following the denial of permission for Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to take its main routes into the city.
The confrontation ensued after the Assam government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, directed the yatra to avoid the city and utilize the Guwahati bypass instead.
The police intervened to prevent the yatra from entering the city, leading to protests from Congress workers.
Visuals from the scene depicted numerous Congress supporters, many wielding party flags, engaging in altercations with law enforcement officers and attempting to breach barricades, all while Rahul Gandhi observed from a distance.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences for the tragic collision involving the Kanchenjunga Express and a goods train near Rangapani station in West Bengal.
