WHO scientists held a session with world leaders to develop strategies to prevent or manage potential future pandemics.

The WHO coined the term "Disease X" in 2018 to refer to a hypothetical pathogen that could cause future health crises.

According to the WHO, the most likely cause of Disease X will be a respiratory virus that could do more damage than COVID, which has killed over 7 million people worldwide.
