On Wednesday, Yemen's Houthi group, aligned with Iran, declared its intention to persist in attacking U.S. and British warships in the Red Sea, citing acts of self-defence.
This announcement raises concerns about potential prolonged disruptions to global trade.
The military spokesperson for the group emphasised that all American and British warships involved in what they termed as "aggression" against Yemen are considered targets.
A U.S. Navy missile cruiser, USS Gettysburg, mistakenly targeted two F/A-18 Super Hornets during airstrikes against Yemen’s Houthi rebels. One plane was hit, causing the pilot and navigator to eject and survive. A second jet narrowly escaped a missile, forcing evasive maneuvers. The Navy launched an investigation into the incident, which paused further airstrikes from the USS Harry S. Truman. This friendly-fire situation has raised concerns about training and coordination within military operations.
