Amidst Zambia's battle against a devastating cholera outbreak, India has stepped in with vital humanitarian aid to support the Southern African nation.

Weighing approximately 3.5 tonnes, the aid package includes essential supplies such as water purification equipment, chlorine tablets, and oral rehydration solution (ORS) sachets.

Zambia is currently grappling with a severe health emergency, marked by nearly 600 fatalities and over 15,000 reported cholera cases since October 2023.

The outbreak has spread across nine of Zambia's ten provinces, with the capital city of Lusaka bearing the brunt of the crisis.

To address the escalating situation, authorities have set up an emergency treatment centre outside the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, a city inhabited by roughly 3 million people.
