Republican Proposal in Florida Aims to End Property Taxes in the State

Republican Proposal in , Florida Aims to End , Property Taxes in the State.

'Newsweek' reports that a new proposal in Florida could eliminate property taxes, while also increasing the state's sales tax.

Republican Representative Ryan Chamberlin has outlined his plan to abolish property taxes, proposing "replacing lost revenue with the establishment of a consumption tax.".

According to Chamberlin, a study will be required to determine exactly how local governments would recoup funds lost through property taxes from other sources.

This bill is about one thing.

It's about starting down the road toward phasing out and eliminating Florida's property tax, Ryan Chamberlin, Florida Republican Representative, via 'Newsweek'.

Chamberlin said that the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) would be tasked with conducting the necessary study.

The OPPAGA would then be required to submit the findings of the study by July 1, 2025.

'Newsweek' reports that Democrats in the state oppose Chamberlin's proposal, claiming the resulting increase in sales tax could have a significant impact.

.

So by eliminating the property tax which all municipalities count on, we could possibly have, would you say, one of the highest sales taxes in the nation to compensate for that loss?, Joe Casello, Florida Democratic Representative, via the 'Newsweek'.

Previously, Chamberlin has argued that Florida homeowners never truly own their home due to paying taxes even after a mortgage is completely paid off.

We all simply rent it from the state, and as long as we pay those rents, then we can use the property we hold a deed for.

This is not a tax; it is slavery, Ryan Chamberlin, Florida Republican Representative, via the 'Pensacola News Journal'

During a lightning-round tiebreaker with Faizan Zaki, Bruhat correctly spelled 29 words in 90 seconds, AP reports. . Bruhat received a trophy and over $50,000 in cash and prizes. I was pretty confident that I had a chance at winning because I’ve been working so hard. And I really wanted to win. That’s why I practiced the spell-off so much, Bruhat Soma, via statement. The word that Bruhat won the competition with was "abseil.". It means "descent in mountaineering by means of a rope looped over a projection above.". The finals only had eight spellers competing, the fewest since 2010, AP reports. . Some critics were upset that the two spellers were subjected to a "spell-off" instead of being given the chance to compete in a conventional round. I do wish that we would have gotten to see more of a duel between them, Charlotte Walsh, 2023 Spelling Bee runner-up. I definitely think they should have been given an opportunity to have some conventional spelling rounds before they defaulted to the spell-off, Scott Remer, one of four coaches who worked with Faizan, via statement
