On the historic day of India's Aditya-L1 mission launch into space, an unforeseen personal challenge emerged for the Chief of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S Somanath.
Just as the Aditya-L1 embarked on its journey to study the Sun, Somanath received a diagnosis that would change his life.
V Narayanan, a distinguished scientist and director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, has been appointed as the new Chairman of ISRO, succeeding S Somanath. With over three decades at ISRO, Narayanan played a pivotal role in developing India's cryogenic engine technology. He will officially assume his position on January 14, 2025, guiding ISRO through its ambitious future projects, including the Gaganyaan mission and a planned manned moon mission by 2040.
