Former subpostmaster Alan Bates, who led the campaign to expose the Horizon IT scandal, has told the Post Office inquiry that the organisation has spent 23 years trying to silence him. Giving evidence in central London on Tuesday, Mr Bates criticised former postal affairs minister Ed Davey for saying the government had an âarms-length relationshipâ with the Post Office. Labour has won the Blackpool South parliamentary by-election, with Chris Webb securing 10,825 votes, a majority of 7,607. The contest was triggered by the resignation of former Tory MP Scott Benton following a lobbying scandal.
