Six dead in tragic Sydney shopping centre stabbing attacks

At least six people have been killed in a stabbing attack at a Sydney shopping centre on Saturday.

Several others, including a small child, were also seriously injured, police confirmed.

A male began stabbing multiple people in Westfield Bondi Junction just before 16:00 local time.

Hundreds were evacuated out of the popular shopping centre but the offender “engaged with nine people”.

A spokesperson from New South Wales Police confirmed that the attacker was confronted by an officer who shot him dead.

Officials said he was a 40-year-old man who was “known to the police” but questions remain on the motive of the attack.

Police believe the offender “acted alone” and are “content that there is no continuing threat”.
