As the spectre of a broader regional conflict hangs over West Asia following Iran's unprecedented launch of explosive drones and missiles at Israel late on Saturday (April 13), Iranians in the capital city of Tehran celebrated with cheers and fireworks.
This marked Iran's first direct assault on Israeli territory.
Additionally, early Sunday (April 14), Iranians once again flooded the streets of Tehran following Iran's retaliatory attacks on Israel the previous night.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has rejected claims that groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis act as proxy forces for Tehran. Speaking on Sunday, Khamenei emphasized that these groups operate independently based on their own interests and decisions, while acknowledging Iran’s support for their causes. Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Palestine, and the Houthis in Yemen are often accused by Western nations of serving as Iran’s regional proxies to expand its influence.
