The United Arab Emirates witnessed an unprecedented deluge, marking its most substantial rainfall on record since 1949.
Described as a "historic weather event" by the state-run WAM news agency, the widespread downpour across the UAE is attributed to a combination of factors, including cloud seeding initiatives.
Significant disruptions have been reported in flights from India to Dubai due to heavy rains causing flooding at the emirate's airport, one of the world's busiest.
Air India, operating 72 weekly flights from multiple Indian cities to Dubai, alongside IndiGo, have cancelled their services on Wednesday.
Other carriers, including Air India Express, Vistara, and SpiceJet, which also serve various Indian cities to Dubai routes, have been affected as well.
Dubai, hosting a substantial Indian diaspora, sees these flight cancellations impacting travel plans and connections for many.
Heathrow airport shutdown has forced Air India flights to return, following a fire that caused a power outage at an electrical substation. The closure, which lasts until March 21 midnight, has disrupted global air travel. Air India has canceled flights and diverted others, while Heathrow advises passengers not to travel. The London Fire Brigade deployed 70 firefighters to contain the blaze, with no cause identified yet. At least 120 inbound flights were diverted, affecting thousands of travelers. Flight disruptions continue, impacting major airlines worldwide.
