On Friday (Apr 19), the Philippines will receive its first contracted BrahMos missile from India, marking a significant milestone in defence collaboration between the two nations.
The journey of this BrahMos missile, renowned as the world's fastest supersonic cruise missile, commences from Nagpur, India, where it is loaded onto an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft.
Accompanied by three civilian freight liners transporting additional parts and support systems, the missile is poised to bolster the defence capabilities of the Philippine Marine Corps' coastal defence regiment.
In a significant step towards enhancing defense relations, Russia and India have agreed to further strengthen their military cooperation, including participation in joint exercises and strategic knowledge-sharing. This agreement, made during a meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC) in Moscow, is aimed at improving operational coordination between the two forces. The announcement comes just days ahead of Indian Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh's visit to Moscow, where he will hold high-level talks and commission a stealth frigate for the Indian Navy. This move further solidifies the longstanding defense partnership between India and Russia, which includes joint development of advanced military systems like the BrahMos cruise missile, the S-400 air-defense system, and more.
