Mikhail Kavelashvili, a former Manchester City footballer, has been elected as the new president of Georgia, with over 200 MPs backing his candidacy. This marks a significant shift as Georgia's presidential elections have traditionally been held by popular vote. However, Kavelashvili’s appointment has sparked protests from the opposition, accusing the ruling party of undermining democracy. As Kavelashvili steps into office, the country faces growing tension between pro-EU opposition and the ruling Georgian Dream party, further fueling political unrest. Will Kavelashvili’s presidency bring stability or deepen the divide in Georgia?
