Russia-Ukraine War: Russian drones injure 6 in Ukraine’s Kharkiv, Dnipro regions | Oneindia
Russian forces carried out an overnight drone attack on Ukraine's Kharkiv and Dnipro regions, causing injuries to at least six individuals and causing damage to critical infrastructure, as well as commercial and residential buildings, according to regional officials on Saturday.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces deployed 13 Shahed drones targeting these regions in the northeast and centre of the country.
The air defence units successfully intercepted and downed all the drones, as confirmed by the air force commander.
However, debris from the downed drones struck civilian targets in Kharkiv, resulting in injuries to four people and igniting a fire in an office building, as stated by the regional governor.
Ukraine’s top commander, Aleksandr Syrsky, is reportedly ready to lay down arms and capitulate to Russia, according to a claim made by a lawmaker from President Vladimir Zelensky’s party. The claim was made by MP Mariana Bezuglaya from the ‘Servant of the People’ party, who is also the deputy chair of the National Security, Defense, and Intelligence Committee.
Syrsky, who became Ukraine’s highest-ranking general in early February, succeeded Valery Zaluzhny, the former general who oversaw last year’s unsuccessful attempts to repel Russian forces. Bezuglaya accused Syrsky and Zaluzhny of secretly colluding to prevent a Ukrainian victory, stating that the two generals belong to a “generals’ mafia” that is more interested in protecting their own privileges than in defeating Russia.

In a devastating escalation of the conflict, a series of Russian missile strikes hit multiple cities across Ukraine on Monday, including a children's hospital in Kyiv, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 people and injuries to 50 more, according to the Ukrainian interior ministry. The rare daytime aerial assault targeted Ukrainian cities during rush hour, with strikes reported in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Slovyansk, and Kramatorsk. Among the buildings hit was Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt hospital, the largest children’s medical center in Ukraine, which has played a crucial role in treating some of the country's sickest children.

Russian forces have made significant progress in the villages of Evgenovka, Novgorodskoye, Timofeeva, Sokol, and Toretsk, repelling five Ukrainian counterattacks in the region. Over 400 Ukrainian troops and several units of hardware, including a U.S.-sent Bradley Fighting Vehicle, MaxxPro Vehicle, and an M777 Howitzer, were reportedly lost during the fighting in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) within 24 hours. Since capturing the town of Avdeevka in February, a major Ukrainian stronghold near Donetsk, Russian forces have reduced Kyiv troops' ability to shell the city and have steadily advanced in the DPR and other areas, including Ukraine's Kharkiv region, taking control of several settlements.
