China Punishes Taiwan; PLA Jets and Warships Surround The Island In Major Showdown
China has initiated two days of military drills encircling Taiwan, branding them as "punishment" for "separatist acts." This move comes shortly after Taiwan's newly elected leader, Lai Ching-te, was sworn in.
The ruling Communist Party of China maintains that Taiwan is part of its territory, despite never having controlled it, and has vowed to reclaim the island by force if necessary.
Taiwan detected 37 Chinese military aircraft, including fighter jets and drones, near its airspace, with 35 crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait. In response, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval vessels, and shore-based missiles. The incident follows recent Chinese military drills and heightened defense patrols. China frames these maneuvers as defense measures, raising tensions as Beijing views Taiwan as a breakaway province, intensifying regional concerns over potential conflict.
