French President Emmanuel Macron has lifted the state of emergency in the Pacific territory in order to open a political dialogue after days of unrest which left seven people dead.

President Emmanuel Macron has arrived in French-ruled New Caledonia after the worst riots on the island in 40 years sparked violent unrest. His arrival did not go down well with the island inhabitants.
