French election results: winners and losers in Paris
For the first time, the far-right National Rally has topped the legislative polls in France, more than doubling its support, while President Emmanuel Macron has been left reeling.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has launched a scathing attack on French President Emmanuel Macron and German opposition leader Friedrich Merz, accusing them of attempting to revive Europe's imperialist past. Speaking at a diplomatic event, Lavrov warned that Western leaders were reverting to their âformer instinctsâ of conquest and domination, drawing chilling comparisons between todayâs political climate and Nazi-era atrocities.
He further stated that âGerman and Ukrainian Nazis are united by their attitudes toward those they want to enslave,â claiming that just as some âburned Jews,â others now âburn Russians.â Lavrovâs remarks come amid intensifying tensions between Moscow and the West over the war in Ukraine, NATO expansion, and growing European militarization.
