During a conversation for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation for the musical, Grande was asked about her relationship with Erivo, to which she explained that they started building trust long before they began filming because they were cast in 2021, and production didn't kick off until December 2022.

Despite rumors of pay-disparity, The Hollywood Reporter can confirm that Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were paid the same salary for their work on 'Wicked.' A spokesperson for Universal said in a statement to THR, "Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on internet fodder. The women received equal pay for their work on 'Wicked.'"
