Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is set to become the EU's new foreign policy chief, advocating for a tougher stance against Russia. She controversially defines victory in Ukraine as breaking Russia into smaller states and supports pushing Russia back, maintaining sanctions, and integrating Ukraine into the EU and NATO. This signals a more confrontational EU approach, likely intensifying tensions with Moscow. Russia, meanwhile, remains committed to its military objectives in Ukraine, setting the stage for continued conflict.

Ukraine’s top commander, Aleksandr Syrsky, is reportedly ready to lay down arms and capitulate to Russia, according to a claim made by a lawmaker from President Vladimir Zelensky’s party. The claim was made by MP Mariana Bezuglaya from the ‘Servant of the People’ party, who is also the deputy chair of the National Security, Defense, and Intelligence Committee.
Syrsky, who became Ukraine’s highest-ranking general in early February, succeeded Valery Zaluzhny, the former general who oversaw last year’s unsuccessful attempts to repel Russian forces. Bezuglaya accused Syrsky and Zaluzhny of secretly colluding to prevent a Ukrainian victory, stating that the two generals belong to a “generals’ mafia” that is more interested in protecting their own privileges than in defeating Russia.
