Erdoğan dismisses UN plan for federated Cyprus, reaffirms commitment to two-state peace deal
The Annan Plan proposed the establishment of a United Republic of Cyprus, a federation of two states.
It was put to a referendum in 2004 and was approved by 65% of Turkish Cypriots in the north but overwhelmingly rejected by Greek Cypriots in the south.
The EU's Foreign Policy chief Josep Borrell’s visit to Lebanon comes at the end of a Middle East tour related to the ongoing wars in Gaza and Lebanon. Before his visit to Beirut, Borrell visited Cyprus and Jordan.

In a bold statement, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced plans to create a 30-kilometer-deep security zone within Syria. The zone is aimed at targeting Kurdish militants, particularly those from the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and its affiliates, the PYD and YPG. These groups are considered terrorist organizations by Turkey, and Erdogan emphasized the need for such a zone to secure Turkey’s borders and combat terrorism.
