England's health and social care watchdog requires substantial overhaul and is currently inadequate, according to Health Secretary Wes Streeting, who has promised swift measures to regain public trust. Mr Streeting was reacting to an independent review into the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body that monitors and inspects all health and adult social care providers. Labour's Wes Streeting has hit back after a Tory minister accused Sir Keir Starmer of intending to work a "four-day week" should he become prime minister. The Labour leader said he would avoid working after 6pm on Fridays to spend time with his children. "Keir Starmer is a great dad, he loves his family and spends time with them. Labour say they will reform the primary care system to ensure patients can get GP appointments and GPs can get jobs. Shadow Health Secretary said the situation would be improved under a Labour government training up more doctors, reducing bureaucracy for GPs and increasing funding into the system.

The Metropolitan Police has arrested 10 more people - including one in the early hours of Thursday morning - following far-right riots in Whitehall.

This is the moment a man was arrested in south London on suspicion of violent disorder against a police officer. Around 20 officers were involved in a morning raid on a house in Sutton at 05:30 BST today. The man arrested was taken to Sutton police station for questioning. The raid came the day after thousands of anti-racism protesters gathered across the UK in response to a week of violent anti-immigration riots, triggered by disinformation around the murder of three girls in Southport.
