Sir Keir Starmer has arrived in Paris ahead of Wednesday evening's Paralympics opening ceremony. The prime minister arrived at Élysée Palace where he was greeted by French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron.

John Swinney said his government will work very closely with citizens to "maximise eligibility for the winter fuel payment" in the wake of its scrapping by the UK Government. Sir Keir Starmer defended the decision, saying it was needed to repair a £22bn "hole" in the public finances. The Scottish Government said they had no choice but to follow suit. "We didn't want to take this decision - this decision was taken for us by the UK Government who abrutply, with very little notice, decided to end the provision for winter fuel payments," Mr Swinney said.

Nigel Farage has accused the prime minister of lining the UK up for "regulated realignment" as he plans to enter a new treaty with Germany. A man who threw a coffee cup at Reform UK leader and Clacton MP Nigel Farage during the General Election campaign has been given a suspended sentence.
Josh Greally, 28, from Derbyshire, was arrested in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, on 11 June after throwing what looked like a paper cup containing a liquid, and another object, at Mr Farage. Reacting to the verdict on Wednesday, Mr Farage said: "Frankly, if a man can threaten me in that way and not get a custodial sentence, that doesn't give much deterrence to anyone else. I am dissatisfied in the extreme."

The paralympic flame was carried through the French capital on the final part of its journey. It comes as final preparations have taken place in Paris ahead of the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games on Wednesday evening.
